If there is one thing I could go back and teach my younger self, it is how to respond to negative energy. Oftentimes, when receiving negative energy, I lacked both the self-control and self-awareness to ignore it and move on. I would ruminate for hours about why this person said this, or why this person did that.
The truth of the matter is, it doesn’t matter why they did it because ultimately, that is their problem.
Many people project their insecurities onto others, especially if they lack self-awareness – which, I would argue, is a lot of people nowadays. Numbed by multiple distractions, how can you expect the average person to be aware of their subconscious thoughts and emotions?
Once you understand that both insecurity and a lack of self-awareness is why most people are rude, you become less bothered by their negativity. You stop questioning why they are rude for no reason, because you understand that a happy, enlightened individual does not act that way.
Perhaps, you can even sympathise.
I am sure there have been times where you have lashed out at someone, even if they didn’t entirely deserve it. Afterwards you take a step back and realise you have been stressed recently, and this is why you lost your temper. This is a really important step to take when developing self-awareness.
You can take this newly found self-awareness a step further and understand that all criticism can and should be acknowledged. Being stubborn and believing you are untouchable or ‘perfect’ is a recipe for disaster. At times, people will point out your imperfections, a self-aware individual will acknowledge this and use the criticism (if warranted) to better themselves.
In order to differentiate between useful comments, and unhelpful comments, you must understand yourself. Both your light and shadow side. When you do this, you are able to utilise certain comments to improve yourself, and ignore the unhelpful comments.
The goal is to be a well-rounded, honest and positive individual. Emanating light wherever and whenever you can. You cannot do this if you lack self-awareness. You also cannot do this if you do not understand why people spread negativity.
When you master both, I believe the human experience becomes much more peaceful.
Knowledge is power.
As always, please touch some grass today.
I personally believe that there are two types of people: those who are not self-aware (nor trying to be) and stuck in the same patterns for their entire lives, and then there are those who are self-aware, or work to be more self-aware (which is an awareness in itself). The people that work to be self-aware, are the ones who create change within themselves, they movement the waters yet stay still, they are able to look inside themselves and see a wonderland that exists. Even if this person “messes up” which is human to do, they still eventually realign themselves. Thanks for sharing this 💜
